B2B and academic research
Genome evidence for strain development, product R&D and investigator-led research.
This is a non-clinical sequencing service. It is intended for isolate characterisation, probiotic development, comparative genomics and other approved research questions; it is not a patient blood diagnostic, inherited-disease test or clinical treatment recommendation.
Industrial and probiotic strains
Establish a genome resource for a defined production or probiotic isolate, compare it with relevant references and review genes associated with your research objective. Genome findings do not independently establish product efficacy or safety.
Microbial and environmental research
Resolve isolate genomes, investigate taxonomic placement and compare selected strains. A mixed community sample usually needs a metagenomics study instead of a single-isolate WGS quotation.
Academic sequencing work packages
Scope sequencing within the investigator’s approved protocol, with transparent methods, raw files and limitations. Scholars retain authorship responsibility; we do not fabricate results or guarantee publication.
Sample types supported after review
Match extraction, sequencing depth and analysis to the organism.
Tell us whether you have material, extracted DNA or an existing culture and whether purity and quantity have already been checked. Do not ship live cultures or regulated material without written acceptance and transport instructions.
Bacterial isolates
Pure, appropriately identified isolates or extracted genomic DNA for bacterial assembly, annotation and comparative analysis. Biosafety eligibility and culture handling are checked before acceptance.
Probiotic strains
Single-strain genome characterisation with taxonomic comparison, agreed AMR and virulence screening, and a documented reference/database strategy. Mixed formulations require a separate isolation or community-analysis plan.
Fungi and yeast
Extraction and long-read assembly tailored to fungal cell walls, genome complexity, ploidy and expected size. Annotation uses organism-appropriate resources rather than bacterial annotation defaults.
Bacteriophages
Phage nucleic-acid and genome work scoped around sample purity, host carryover, nucleic-acid type and genome termini. Phage-specific annotation and interpretation are agreed in advance.
Plant tissue
High-molecular-weight DNA extraction planning for plant tissues, including inhibitors, repeats, heterozygosity and genome size. Coverage and polishing needs are reviewed before a plant WGS commitment.
Plasmid and amplicon constructs
Whole-plasmid verification and targeted construct sequencing when the scientific question is sequence identity, insert orientation or structural integrity. These are quoted separately from whole-organism WGS.
Complete wet-lab to bioinformatics workflow
A traceable workflow from accepted material to reviewable genome files.
- 01
HMW DNA extraction and QC
Review sample provenance and perform the agreed high-molecular-weight DNA extraction, quantity, purity and integrity checks. Inadequate inputs are flagged before library preparation; re-extraction is discussed with the client.
- 02
Oxford Nanopore library preparation
Select an appropriate library, barcode and run design for the organism and study. Specify the intended read yield or coverage target, controls and multiplexing plan in the quotation.
- 03
Long-read sequencing and basecalling
Generate long-read data and document basecalling settings, read-quality filtering and sample demultiplexing. Actual yield depends on sample quality, library behaviour and the agreed run design.
- 04
De novo assembly and polishing
Use an appropriate assembly workflow, such as Flye or Canu where suitable, followed by polishing and assembly-quality review. Report completeness, contamination indicators and unresolved regions rather than assuming every genome closes.
- 05
Annotation and genomic screening
For suitable bacterial genomes, Prokka or Bakta can support annotation; fungal, plant and phage genomes need different workflows. Agreed CARD/VFDB screening reports candidate AMR/virulence genes with database versions and interpretive limits.
- 06
Comparison, handover and submission support
Provide agreed comparative-genomics analyses, publication-ready figures, raw FASTQ, assembled FASTA, annotation files and a methods report. NCBI GenBank/SRA preparation and upload support require client-approved metadata, release settings and data ownership.
Genotypic AMR screening is not an antimicrobial susceptibility test. A gene match does not establish expression, clinical resistance or virulence, and an absent match does not prove safety. Interpret the findings alongside the study design and any separately commissioned phenotypic work.
Turnaround, confidentiality and ownership
Agree the deliverables and commercial terms before the run.
Typical turnaround: 2–4 weeks
A typical accepted microbial WGS work package takes 2–4 weeks after satisfactory sample QC and scope confirmation. Plant/fungal complexity, re-extraction, additional sequencing or expanded analysis may require a different written timeline.
Mutual NDA
A mutual NDA can be put in place before proprietary strain identities, product details or confidential datasets are exchanged. Start the enquiry with a non-confidential summary.
100% client IP ownership
The written agreement provides 100% client ownership of project-specific data and agreed deliverables. Pre-existing methods, third-party tools and database licences remain subject to their existing rights; no public deposit is made without authorisation.
The quotation identifies the sample count, QC and repeat-work terms, target data scope, report contents, raw-file transfer, retention period and any external executing facility. A quotation is for the agreed work, not a promised biological outcome.
Research-grade scope and clear reporting boundaries.
Manna Biotech provides exploratory and industrial R&D sequencing with research-stage reporting. This is non-clinical work and is not represented as NABL-accredited testing or a GLP study. A statutory, clinical or accredited report requires a separately verified facility and appropriate scope; a research WGS report cannot substitute for it.
Sample suitability, the executing facility, method availability, biosafety, acceptance criteria and deliverables are confirmed in writing before work begins. We do not guarantee a particular result, publication, regulatory approval or commercial outcome.

Questions
Frequently asked questions
Can you sequence bacterial, probiotic, fungal, plant and phage genomes?
+
These sample classes can be considered for an Oxford Nanopore research work package, subject to material suitability, biosafety, sample QC, genome complexity and current execution capacity. A bacterial workflow is not automatically suitable for fungi, plants or phages. Tell us the organism, source and objective so extraction, coverage and annotation can be scoped before acceptance.
Should we send a culture, tissue or extracted DNA?
+
Ask for project-specific instructions first. We review the organism or tissue, extraction status, available concentration and integrity measurements, packaging and transport conditions. A pure isolate, complex plant tissue and a plasmid preparation need different handling. Do not send live, hazardous or regulated material until the receiving laboratory has confirmed eligibility and transfer requirements.
Will WGS prove that our probiotic strain is safe or close its genome completely?
+
No guaranteed safety determination or closed genome is offered. Assembly completeness depends on DNA quality, read depth, repeats, plasmids and organism biology. CARD/VFDB screening describes genomic matches under stated thresholds and does not replace phenotypic susceptibility, toxicology or regulatory evaluation. Limitations and unresolved regions are reported explicitly.
Which raw data, analysis files and NCBI support are included?
+
The scope states the raw FASTQ, assembled FASTA, QC, annotation, comparison tables and figures to be delivered. POD5 retention or additional intermediate files should be requested before the run. GenBank/SRA support can cover metadata preparation, file validation and submission assistance; the client approves ownership, author details and release timing. NCBI acceptance is not guaranteed.
How long does a Hyderabad WGS service project take and what drives price?
+
A typical accepted microbial project is planned for 2–4 weeks after satisfactory QC and written scope confirmation. Sample count, extraction difficulty, genome size, coverage, repeat sequencing and analysis depth determine the quote. Large or complex plant and fungal work may need a longer plan; no universal delivery date is promised before review.
Can a company use an NDA and retain ownership, and can a university use the results?
+
Yes. A mutual NDA and written terms can establish 100% client ownership of project-specific data and agreed deliverables while retaining applicable pre-existing and third-party rights. Public database deposition needs client approval. Universities receive transparent research methods and files for investigator-led work; authorship, institutional approvals and interpretation remain with the research team, and publication is never guaranteed.
